This User Agreement governs your use of Journal Mate. By downloading, accessing, or using Journal Mate, you agree to this User Agreement. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
Journal Mate is a tool for digitizing and organizing journals and similar materials. It is not a guaranteed archival, legal-retention, or disaster-recovery service.
Journal Mate Service
Journal Mate is software for scanning, importing, organizing, editing, exporting, and synchronizing personal journals, pages, and related materials. Certain features may depend on your device, operating system version, language settings, Apple account configuration, or Apple services such as iCloud.
License
Subject to this User Agreement and any applicable App Store terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Journal Mate for your personal lawful use.
- You may not copy, resell, rent, lease, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app except as permitted by applicable law.
- You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code except where applicable law expressly permits that activity.
- You may not use the app in a way that violates law, infringes another person's rights, or interferes with the app's normal operation.
Your Content
You retain ownership of the journals, images, notes, text, and other content you create, scan, import, or store through Journal Mate. You are responsible for:
- ensuring that you have the right to scan, import, store, and share the content you place in the app;
- reviewing content before sharing or exporting it;
- complying with privacy, confidentiality, copyright, and other legal obligations related to your content.
OCR, AI, and Content Accuracy
Journal Mate may offer OCR and AI-assisted features, including recognized text, suggested titles, summaries, tags, and note improvements. These features are provided for convenience only.
- OCR and AI results may contain errors, omissions, false inferences, or formatting issues.
- You are responsible for reviewing and deciding whether to keep, use, edit, share, or rely on generated output.
- Journal Mate is not responsible for decisions made based on OCR or AI-generated output.
Apple Services, Local Storage, and Sync
Journal Mate may rely on Apple platform features such as iCloud, CloudKit, Camera, Photos, Files, widgets, share extensions, and Apple Intelligence.
- Availability of these features depends on Apple, your device, your operating system, your locale, and your account settings.
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of Apple-provided services.
- If iCloud Sync is disabled, blocked, unavailable, or delayed, the app may continue to operate locally but some cross-device functionality may not work.
Backups and Your Responsibility
You are responsible for maintaining any backups, exports, or original source materials that matter to you. In particular:
- do not rely on the app as the sole copy of irreplaceable journals or documents;
- review your sync and backup setup periodically;
- verify exports and saved copies if you intend to use them for important personal, academic, legal, medical, archival, or business purposes.
Exports and Sharing
When you export or share content from Journal Mate, you are responsible for the destination, recipients, and consequences of that sharing. Once content leaves the app or your Apple-controlled storage environment, it may no longer be protected by the same controls.
App Changes and Availability
We may change, improve, suspend, or discontinue some or all app features at any time. We may also update the app to fix bugs, improve compatibility, comply with legal requirements, or refine product behavior.
We do not guarantee that every feature will remain available forever or that every version of iOS, device, locale, or hardware configuration will support the same capabilities.
Disclaimer of Warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Journal Mate is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, or reliability.
- We do not warrant that the app will always be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure.
- We do not warrant that OCR or AI output will be correct or useful for your needs.
- We do not warrant that data will never be lost, delayed, duplicated, corrupted, or become unavailable.
- We do not warrant that Apple platform services or integrations will always function as expected.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, loss of journals, loss of business, loss of goodwill, device issues, sync failures, or other losses arising from or related to your use of Journal Mate.
Nothing in this User Agreement excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
Termination
You may stop using Journal Mate at any time by deleting the app and its local data. We may limit or discontinue access to the app or specific features where reasonably necessary, including for legal, technical, security, or product reasons.
Changes to This User Agreement
We may update this User Agreement from time to time. When we do, we may revise the effective date and publish the updated version within the app or through another appropriate product surface.
